My Story

Hello! I’m Clara Ryder, a visually impaired artist from Dublin, Ireland. I paint with my guide dog Blue by my side keeping me company and my toes warm.

I am legally blind and with that also colourblind since birth. As I see only in tones of black and white I avoided using colour until this year. I decided to go outside of my comfort zone and make use of the full palette. I work with values, shades and whatever looks right to me, and these paintings are the result.

I have always loved animals, I adore everything about them. When I am painting them, I feel at ease and connected to them.

I try to paint animals that I know or have met, I can then truly capture their essence, movements and personalities. This is important to me as I can’t normally see them in their fullness physically.

These pieces were painted during lockdown and I am looking forward to sharing them with you!
